A Day in the Life
Show us what your day looks like!
Instructions
Step One: Document
Pick one day this week and photograph it from start to finish—from the moment you wake up until you go to bed. Aim to take one photo per hour. If your day includes long stretches in the same setting (like an office), challenge yourself to vary your composition: shoot wide, go close, change your angle.
Step Two: Cull and Curate
From all the images you take, narrow your selection down to no more than 10 photos that best capture your day. Then, refine your selection further to just three photos:
One establishing shot (sets the scene)
One context shot (adds narrative detail)
One environmental shot (shows atmosphere or surroundings)
Pick one of these as your hero image—the image that most powerfully represents your day. If the hero image is not one of the three, you may include it separately.
Step Three: Process and Reflect
Post-process your final selected images using any editing tools you’re comfortable with. Then, reflect on:
How you approached the day and captured your story.
Why you chose each of the three shots.
Why you selected your hero image.
What kind of feedback you’re hoping for (technical, narrative, compositional, etc.).
tl;dr: What to Hand In
Your final (+/-) 10 images (denote 3: establishing, context, environmental).
One clearly marked hero image (included in or separate from the series).
A short paragraph or two reflecting on the questions above.
