With this assignment, you will…

  • Start considering a personal project you want to begin.

  • Create a photo thinking about focus options.

  • Understand focus point and why they are used.

Use Focus Intentionally

Start thinking about what you may want to do for a final project (we’ll discuss this more in the next unity). Take a photo of any subject, under any lighting conditions. The main goal of this assignment is to choose your focus mode deliberately based on the scene and subject of your image.

Instructions

Step One: Start thinking about a project

Consider what may be something that interests you in terms of a long-term project. You don’t have to have a fully fleshed out idea just yet, but start getting in the mindset of a personal project.

Step Two: Create a new photo using intentional focus modes

Using the knowledge you’ve gained in this unit, think about what focus mode would be best to acheive your desired outcome. If you’re not sure which would work best, experiment with multiple options and compare them later.

Step Three: Post and reflect

Post your image and write a short reflection including which focus mode you decided on and why it was a good choice for your final image.

tl;dr: What to Hand In

  1. One final image of any kind.

  2. A reflection on what you learned about focus modes and why you chose the one you did.
